Kidney transplant is the second most common transplant operation in the United States. People who have developed kidney failure due to high blood pressure, infections, diabetes or other causes are potential candidates for transplant.

To be eligible for dual organ transplant, patients must be less than 45 years old and have evidence of kidney failure.

People who have kidney failure have a few treatment options to choose from, which are: continue to follow with their nephrologist (kidney specialist) for medical treatment, remain on dialysis treatments or remain on the waitlist for a cadaveric (deceased) donor.
