Benefits of Telemedicine
Telemedicine gives you access to the expertise of PinnacleHealth’s highly trained physicians—without needing to travel. In some cases, you may even be able to consult with a PinnacleHealth specialist from the comfort of your local physician’s office. Other patient benefits include:
- Fast expert care in situations when seconds count
- Faster diagnosis, which leads to faster treatment
- Low travel costs
- Improved patient care
The PinnacleHealth Telestroke Network gives stroke patients at community hospitals throughout the area 24/7 access to the life saving expertise of our acute stroke experts.
Using telemedicine technology, our neurologists can remotely evaluate and diagnose people who have had strokes and make treatment recommendations to emergency medicine doctors at other hospitals. Our staff communicates using digital video cameras, the Internet, smartphones and other technology.
Having a prompt stroke evaluation increases the chance you will receive clot-dissolving therapies (thrombolysis) or other procedures in time to reduce injury resulting from stroke.
What to Expect During a Telemedicine Consult
During a telemedicine consultation or examination, a nurse or physician will be present to provide you with any required on-site care. You and your PinnacleHealth specialist will be able to see and hear each other via a mobile video conferencing unit.
Your PinnacleHealth specialist will ask you and your physician about your condition and symptoms and will have full remote access to your medical records and laboratory or imaging test results.
Your PinnacleHealth specialist will work with your on-site medical team to diagnose your condition and determine the most appropriate treatment plan for you. Your on-site medical team will carry out any necessary treatment or, if necessary, arrange for your care at another facility.
