Cardiac Rehabilitation

Helping cardiac patients resume their daily activities after treatment is an important part of what we do at the PinnacleHealth CardioVascular Institute.

The services available through our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program give patients the support they need to get stronger and feel confident after a cardiac event or procedure.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Core Program

The Cardiac Rehabilitation program is an outpatient progressive exercise and education program designed to help patients recovering from recent cardiovascular-related operations or problems such as:

  • Bypass surgery
  • Angioplasty or intracoronary stent
  • Valve replacement
  • Heart attack
  • Angina
  • Congestive heart failure
  • A diagnosis of being at risk for cardiac problems

Cardiac Rehab

Recent evidence shows that patients attending 18 to 24 sessions receive maximum benefit such as:

  • An increase in exercise and activity tolerance
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Alter blood cholesterol
  • Reduce body fat
  • Assist in smoking cessation
  • Enhance sense of well-being and increase self-confidence
  • A decrease in the number of hospitalizations
  • A reduction in anxiety and a better outlook on life

Exercise Therapy

Exercise therapy sessions are scheduled three times a week in a supervised exercise area. The patient is closely supervised while performing an exercise program, which is designed specifically for the patient. The patient's exercise program might include the use of equipment, such as stationary bicycles, arm ergometry, treadmills, steps and arm weights and pulleys. Their program may include resistive training.

Patient Education

Education programs will help the patient learn more about his or her heart condition and how to manage their risk factor(s) leading towards improved health. The patient and their family will meet regularly with a member of the rehabilitation team to discuss their progress.
