Emergency Rooms

With emergency rooms (ER) at our Community, Harrisburg and West Shore campuses, PinnacleHealth is prepared to take the best care of you or your loved one in the event of a serious accident or health condition. Our emergency rooms are open 24/7 and are equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

When should you go to the emergency room?

An emergency room visit is the right choice for illnesses or injuries that are serious or life- threatening, and where the time needed to contact your primary care provider may mean permanent damage to your health. This can include, but is not limited to:

  • Chest pain or severe abdominal pain
  • Severe burns
  • Deep cuts or bleeding that won’t stop
  • Sudden blurred or loss of vision
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Numbness in the face, arm, or leg
  • Sudden, severe headache (not a migraine)
  • Seizures
  • Suspected fractures
  • Mental confusion
  • Fainting
  • Eye injuries

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest hospital emergency room.

Advanced Emergency Medicine

We know that every second counts in a life-threatening emergency. That is why we have developed specialized programs such as:

  • The Stroke Center. Stroke patients who come to PinnacleHealth’s emergency room receive immediate, comprehensive treatment from a specialized team.
  • Code STEMI for heart attack. In the Code STEMI process, emergency responders alert appropriate ER staff members as soon as they suspect a patient is having a heart attack. The staff is then ready to transfer the patient from the ER doors to the cardiac catheterization lab for treatment.
