Osteopathic Orthopedic Surgery Residency

PinnacleHealth’s five-year Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program is approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO). We provide outstanding surgical training in orthopedics to 25 residents. Our program has been creating outstanding orthopedic surgeons since 1972. Additionally, our program is in pre-accreditation status with the ACGME.

Our Mission

Our Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program mission is to provide you with the best possible education while giving you the motivation and opportunity to gain the skills you need to become a competent orthopedic surgeon.

About Our Residency

Our Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program goes beyond satisfying the basic training requirement for future certification in orthopedic surgery through the AOA via the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. In addition to learning about the many facets of general orthopedics, you will also receive training in a number of specialty areas, including:

  • Sports Medicine
  • Hand and Upper Extremity
  • Orthopedic Spine
  • Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement
  • Orthopedic Trauma
  • Pediatric Orthopedics

You will also receive training in outpatient orthopedics at our on-site orthopedic clinic, which is run by residents and supervised by the attending orthopedic surgeon. The clinic sees patients on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon and sees more than 100 patients each week.

Application Requirements

To be considered for the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program, you must apply through ERAS by October 1. You will be contacted by phone or email to schedule your interview, which will occur during your senior year between September and November.

To be considered for an interview in orthopedics, it is a prerequisite that you do at least one external rotation at the Community Campus prior to applying for an internship. However, we encourage all prospective orthopedic surgery residents to consider a clerkship on our Community Campus. The clerkship program allows our staff to get to know you and learn about your strengths, weaknesses, motivations and suitability for residency.
