Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology
The Pennsylvania Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery at PinnacleHealth has been recognized as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG) by AAGL, an internationally recognized authority in minimally invasive gynecology. This prestigious program works to increase patient knowledge and access to minimally invasive gynecologic procedures, an innovation in women's healthcare.
Magnet Recognized Hospital
This prestigious distinction recognizes excellence in nursing care. Pinnacle Health is only the seventeenth Magnet Hospital in Pennsylvania and one of only 370 in the nation.
Excellence in Patient Care
PinnacleHealth was recognized with the Excellence in Patient Care award given by outcomes firm Studer Group®. The Excellence in Patient Care award is given to select partners based on various categories. PinnacleHealth was selected based on the amount of significant rate of change and/or substantial achievement in low turnover within our organization over recent fiscal years. PinnacleHealth’s results for turnover are ranked among the lowest from a database of over 850 organizations coached by Studer Group.
Harrisburg Hospital and Community General Osteopathic Hospital received NICHE Designation (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) and are on the journey to excellence in elder care. This designation demonstrates PinnacleHealth's commitment to continue improving and enhancing the quality of care that elders receive in the community.
Among all hospitals in Pennsylvania, only two are designated Baby Friendly – and PinnacleHealth is one of those hospitals! In October 2014 we joined an elite group of 203 hospitals in the nation to receive this recognition that is part of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative from Baby Friendly USA.
American College of Cardiology Award for Cardiac Care
PinnacleHealth has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2015. PinnacleHealth is one of only 319 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.The award recognizes PinnacleHealth’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that PinnacleHealth has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
PinnacleHealth receives Atrial Fibrillation Certification
PinnacleHealth CardioVascular Institute has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria and undergoing a comprehensive review by an accreditation review specialist from the SCPC. PinnacleHealth CardioVascular Institute’s protocol-driven and systematic approach to patient evaluation and management allows physicians to reduce time to treatment and to risk-stratify patients to decrease their length of stay in the emergency department and the hospital.
PinnacleHealth has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award.
The award recognizes PinnacleHealth’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.
PinnacleHealth has received the Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure Gold Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association for the fourth year in a row.
The recognition signifies that PinnacleHealth has reached an aggressive goal of treating heart failure patients with 85 percent compliance for at least 24 months to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology secondary prevention guidelines for heart failure patients.
American Heart Association 2014 Mission: Lifeline, Bronze
The American Heart Association recognized PinnacleHealth for achieving 85 percent or higher composite adherence to all Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Receiving Center performance achievement indicators for consecutive 90-day intervals and 75 percent or higher compliance on all Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center quality measures to improve the quality of care for STEMI patients.
PinnacleHealth has received the Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation Gold Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association.
The recognition signifies that PinnacleHealth has reached an aggressive goal in using guidelines-based care to improve patient outcomes from in-hospital cardiac arrest. Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation helps PinnacleHealth’s staff develop and implement protocols that can reduce disability and death from cardiac and respiratory emergencies. It provides an evidence-based, quality improvement program of patient safety, medical emergency team response, effective resuscitation and post-emergency care.
PinnacleHealth Breast Care Center Receives National Accreditation
The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) is a national coalition of professional healthcare organizations dedicated to the highest quality of care for women and men diagnosed with diseases of the breast. Centers that seek NAPBC accreditation must complete a comprehensive online application and an on-site inspection by an NAPBC surveyor who verifies the availability of 17 components of care and validates compliance with 27 evidence-based standards of care required to achieve NAPBC accreditation. To maintain accreditation the center is required to document ongoing compliance with the standards on an annual basis and undergo an on-site inspection every three years.
PinnacleHealth has won several awards since 2013 for the website and e-healthcare communicatoins. Most recently they won a Silver Award for Best Healthcare Content from the National eHealthcare Leadership Awards program.
Judges looked at how websites and other digital communications compared with others in the organization’s classification.
Primary Stroke Center Certification
The Joint Commission’s Primary Stroke Center Certification is based on the recommendations for primary stroke centers published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association’s statements/guidelines for stroke care.
Center of Excellence in Diabetes Care
We are proud to say that PinnacleHealth was the first of only two hospitals in the state of Pennsylvania to get the Gold Seal of Approval® from The Joint Commission for improving care of diabetic patients in the hospital. We are among 20 hospitals across the country to get this recognition, demonstrating our commitment to excellence in providing disease-specific care.

The awards program, created in 2000, is one of the first statewide programs of its kind in the country. The program is a public/private partnership between Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Central Penn Business Journal.
