Volunteer

Our volunteers share their time and talents to improve the health and well being of our patients and the residents of Central Pennsylvania.

If you enjoy helping others, and want to make a difference, you should consider becoming a PinnacleHealth volunteer. Your contribution of service will be rewarded with the satisfaction of meeting new people and changing the lives of those you serve.

Volunteer Opportunities

Whether you would like to work directly with patients and families, or would rather serve in a “behind-the-scenes” role, we have a volunteer opportunity for you. You can choose from a wide range of positions at one of our hospital campuses or outpatient centers including:

Administrative Support

  • Clerical Support
  • Greeters
  • Information Desk

Patient Care/Support

  • Emergency Department
  • Nursing Floors
  • Transporter

Specialty Areas

  • Gift Shop
  • Healing Therapy Program (music/pet therapies)
  • Pastoral Care Program

Gifts Of The Heart

These volunteers give their time and talent by making items to donate to patients at PinnacleHealth. Learn more.

Adult And Student Programs

We have both adult and student volunteer programs. Our student programs include a school year co-op program with area high schools as well as a summer program. You must be at least 15 years of age to volunteer.

We do not accept:

  • Court-ordered community service volunteer work
  • Volunteers for senior projects if the student is looking for a short-term volunteer opportunity
  • Short-term, "shadow" experiences through the volunteer department

Volunteer Locations

PinnacleHealth has more than 700 volunteers spread out across Harrisburg Hospital, Community General Hospital, West Shore Hospital, Polyclinic Hospital, Fredricksen Outpatient Center, outpatient clinics and physician offices throughout the community.

Hours Requirements

We ask that adult volunteers commit to at least 50 hours over a period of one year. Student volunteers are required to commit to 30 hours during their program period. Most volunteers work 3-4 hour shifts, 1-3 times per week.

Dress Code

It is important that volunteers be easy to identify and look professional. We ask that volunteers wear a PinnacleHealth-provided volunteer shirt or smock and their identification badge at all times. Volunteers may wear any color pants – khaki, black or white – but no blue jeans. Comfortable, closed-toe and closed-back shoes are required. Visible tattoos or piercings (other than the ears) are not allowed and must be covered or removed while volunteering.
