Depending on the surgery that you have scheduled, a nerve block might be discussed as an option for pain control. If you, your surgeon and your Anesthesiologist think you would benefit from a nerve block, the procedure will be performed prior to surgery. Typically the pain control from a nerve block lasts 4-24 hours.
If a nerve block is an appropriate option for control of your surgical pain, an Anesthesiologist will discuss with you details of the procedure, including risks and benefits.
