Baby caps are our most common gift. Every baby born at the Harrisburg Hospital receives a gift of love and caring in a beautifully hand crafted baby cap.
In addition to the baby caps, our maternity department also receives delicately done baby blankets, sweaters, booties and layettes. Our neo-natal unit also receives baby caps and blankets along with hand sewn preemie outfits, diapers and other needed items.
So valuable to our peri-natal bereavement program are the beautiful bereavement buntings, covers and hand painted memory boxes that we receive. These gifts help to comfort and lessen, even if just a bit, the sadness and grief for these parents and extended families.
Our pediatric department receives art supplies, activity packets and books. Young patients receive new stuffed animals and Hug-A-Bears to bring them comfort while they are away from home. Adopt-A-Dolls are comforting as well and are also used as an interactive learning tool by the clinical staff.
Warm, handmade sweaters, scarves, caps, gloves and mittens donated during the colder months are given to outpatient areas, such as our Emergency Department, for distribution to patients in need. Our new Cancer Center at the Community Campus receives donations of winter and summer head coverings for the chemotherapy patients.
Pastoral care volunteers are provided with prayer shawls to share as they provide spiritual care and support to our patients. Gifts to our Rehab units include lap robes, comfort pillows and wheelchair and walker totes.
Approximately one third of our devoted volunteers are those we affectionately refer to as Our Gifts of the Heart volunteers. If you have a talent for making a Gift of the Heart, you should consider becoming part of this incredible group of volunteers.
