Purpose:

The Practice Council defines, implements, maintains, and improves the standards of nursing practice and delivery of care consistent with established regulatory agencies and professional standards. The Practice Council is concerned with the processes that promote positive, safe patient centered outcomes and the maintenance of a highly skilled nursing work force. By facilitating nurses' participation in clinical practice decisions, the Practice Council advances the accountability of the professional nurse. 

Activities:

  • Review and approval of all plans of care (standards and nursing diagnosis), policies and procedures for nursing practice.
  • Review and approval of all standards, policies and procedures that relate to or specifically influence clinical nursing practice.
  • Review of concerns, issues, and other related activities having an impact on clinical practice: (i.e. documentation, staffing patterns, interdisciplinary issues...)
  • Collaborate with the Research Council to promote evidence based practice and incorporate nursing research findings into clinical practice.Participate in the review and recommendation of products and equipment.
  • Assist in the identification of learning opportunities for patient care staff.
  • Address the needs of a culturally diverse patient population.
