The Leadership Council creates an atmosphere that promotes and supports risk taking and critical thinking within the shared decision making framework and through the development of the nursing strategic plan. The Leadership Council enables, encourages, and nurtures emerging leadership skills in nurses. The Leadership Council’s global oversight of the operations of nursing activities provides a forum for thorough communication, consultation of nursing executives/leaders and support of nursing innovation. Significant effort is directed at helping staff gain an understanding of departmental and organizational budgetary processes. 


  • Establish and implement the nursing strategic plan.
  • Mentor new nurse leaders.
  • Provide continuing education in Leadership development once a year. (Example: Speaker or Grand Rounds)
  • Participate in the development of a budget to support the activities of the Leadership Council.
  • Give final consent decree of all nursing policies, procedures, competencies and job descriptions.
  • Credential privately employed Allied Health personnel.
  • Promote and support a culture of shared decision making throughout the organization.
