Achieving CDP has been one of the most rewarding moments of my nursing career. Writing about my own attributes in nursing has allowed time for me to reflect on what it is I do every day. I have been a nurse at PinnacleHealth since 1996. Having the opportunity to validate my role as a nurse through writing has been an exceptional opportunity. CDP is a way to be compensated for my experience and knowledge. My experience as a member of the Float Pool has been nothing but positive. I have had great mentors, teachers, and patients over the past 16 years. CDP gave me a chance to tell you all about them! I encourage everyone to try to achieve CDP. It really does put your nursing career in persepctive.
What is Magnet?
In the early 1990s, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
created the Magnet recognition program and continues administering it today. Magnet Status is granted only to hospitals that undergo a rigorous, voluntary evaluation process to demonstate that they meet standards for care and practice. It is comparable to the "Academy Awards" or "Hall of Fame" for nursing. Currently, there are 395 Magnet hospitals nationwide, accounting for less than 7% of all US hospitals.
PinnacleHealth received its initial Magnet designation in 2006 and recently achieved its second designation
in September 2011. PinnacleHealth is one of 21 Magnet hospitals in Pennsylvania and the first in the central PA region to receive the Magnet designation a second time.

What does Magnet mean for patients?
High standards of quality patient care: The standards of excellence set by the ANCC must be met by Magnet hospitals, and these standards encourage to high-quality patient care. Research has also shown that Magnet hospitals achieve higher levels of patient satisfaction and lower mortality and complication rates.
Excellent nursing services: Magnet recognition rewards excellence in nursing, and it is awarded by an independent nursing organization.
Professional work environment: By promoting learning and professional growth for nurses, Magnet hospitals also foster a positive environment.
Teamwork: The process to achieve Magnet recognition requires years of effort and collaboration between hospital departments and physicians. A Magnet hospital functions well as a team.
Attract and retain highly qualified nurses: Magnet status demonstrates to nurses that a hospital provides opportunities for professional growth and a positive environment to provide patient care.
