Here are a few of their stories:
Jane Oskutis
Combining her background in healthcare and her love for playing the harp, Jane Oskutis became a PinnacleHealth volunteer because she understands the positive effect music has on patients. Oskutis travels throughout all the PinnacleHealth hospitals donating her time by soothing patients, families, and staff with the sounds of the harp. “The patients really enjoy my playing,” she says. “It makes them feel good and it’s very rewarding for me.”
Karen Sykes
Karen Sykes sees the silver lining in a devastating situation. Four years ago, her daughter had an unexpected still birth. “It was awful, but I was so impressed with PinnacleHealth’s bereavement program and how we were treated,” she says. “I wanted to create something positive from this negative, so I decided to volunteer with the bereavement program. Now, I’m honoring my grandson’s short time on earth while helping people who are in the same situation I once was.”
