PinnacleHealth Auxiliary presents Star Light, Star Bright, Shine for a Child Tonight!
Saturday April 21, West Shore Country Club

The fundraising goal for the 2012 Gala is $100,000 – this amount will have an immediate impact on the Children’s Fund
by helping to ensure children and adolescents from birth to age 18 receive quality healthcare regardless of their ability to pay. Contributing to the Children’s Fund is an investment in helping infants and children recover from abuse so that they may develop and grow into healthy, productive adults. Your contribution allows us to continue to provide care to children such as Mary McCurdy, pictured in February with her doctors, Domingo Alvear, MD and Margaret Donahue, MD in the Harrisburg Hospital NICU. Mary was born at 24 weeks gestation, in 1996, weighing only 400 grams. At the time, she was the smallest newborn her doctor had ever seen.  This April, the McCurdy family will have the pleasurer of celebrating Mary's 16th birthday, a celebration made possible by her team of medical professionals and the array of children's services offered by PinnacleHealth.

We are proud to collaborate with our honorary event chairs, Drs. Domingo and Vinnie Alvear in highlighting this worthy fund. Since 1965, Dr. Domingo Alvear has been helping children overcome unbelievable odds with his delicate surgical skills. His surgical work has been featured in newspaper articles, books and even on an episode of "Amazing Medical Stories" on The Learning Channel (TLC). Dr. Alvear holds a position on the executive committee of PinnacleHealth’s medical staff, representing more than 900 physicians and PinnacleHealth’s surgical residency faculty. In addition, he and his wife, a noted anesthesiologist, participate in approximately 30 surgical mission trips to their native
Philippines. A true mission trip veteran, Dr. Vinnie Alvear grew up learning to share and got into medicine as a way to help others. During these mission trips, she is frequently the anesthesiologist for the same pediatric patients her husband operates on.
