Mark Wieder, 22, experienced the death of his father in November 2006. Lawrence R. Wieder, Esquire, passed away at age 58 from a neurological condition, leaving his wife, Cheryl, and Mark behind.
As an undergraduate student at Virginia Tech, Mark was devastated by his father's death.
Mark wanted to find a way to set up a fund in remembrance of his father and to ensure high-quality care for patients with neurological conditions. With his mother's agreement, Mark contacted members of his father's law firm to initiate the steps to create the Lawrence R. Wieder, Esq., Neuroscience Fund.
Mark and his mother chose PinnacleHealth Foundation to house the fund because of PinnacleHealth's strong commitment to enhance neuroscience services.
"My family is happy to have an institution such as PinnacleHealth so close to home. They offer exceptional care, friendly and sincere practitioners and have top-notch facilities and equipment," Mark said.
For Mark, generosity to PinnacleHealth Foundation was part of his healing process. He wanted to guarantee that other patients and families could receive the same care and compassion that his father and family received.
After his graduation this spring, Mark, a Lower Paxton Township native, plans to follow in his father's footsteps by attending law school.
The Lawrence R. Wieder, Esq., Neuroscience Fund will enhance the quality of life and treatment for neuroscience patients and families through support of neuroscience education, outreach programs and service development at PinnacleHealth. So far, the fund has raised over $30,000. To contribute to this fund, donate online or call (717) 231-8080.
