This is a one-year program following completion of an osteopathic Family Practice residency and leading to eligibility for certification in Sports Medicine by the AOA.
The purpose of the Fellowship Program is to provide Primary Care Physicians with the didactic and clinical skills necessary to become Sports Medicine specialists while maintaining competency in Family Medicine. Therefore, the fellow will continue learning in a Family Practice office. The fellow will also work closely with orthopedic surgeons, and study musculoskeletal radiology, exercise physiology, sports nutrition, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and sports psychology.
The program is currently affiliated with numerous school districts and two local colleges, which gives the fellow the opportunity to provide game coverage and attend on-site injury clinics, community events, physical examinations, and national meetings.
