Acute Rehab

The Helen M. Simpson Rehabilitation Hospital–Community Campus Staff on this 55-bed unit focus on assisting patients and families in obtaining their highest level of function to facilitate a return to the home environment. State-of-the-art therapies, including hydro, horticultural, physical, occupational and speech therapies and patient/family education are major focuses of the program. Nurses on this unit care for patients with head injuries, spinal cord injuries, CVAs, orthopedic surgeries, and medical deconditioning. A new program for patients with Parkinson’s disease that includes deep brain stimulation has been recently implemented.
Required Experience: Graduate or Registered Nurse with a BSN


Main 10–Harrisburg Campus
This 37-bed medical-surgical unit specializes in the care of adult patients with orthopedic and neurosurgical diagnoses/injuries. This unit provides state-of-the-art orthopedic and neurosurgical care including cardiac monitoring capability. The orthopedic service specializes in total joint replacements with the largest population being total knees and hips. The neurosurgical service specializes in craniotomies and VP shunt placement and care. Other surgeries include various spinal surgeries, both cervical and lumbar, and treatment of traumatic injuries such as fractures and sport-related injuries.
Required Experience: Graduate or Registered Nurse with a BSN


2 North/South–Community Campus
This 50-bed unit specializes in the care of adult patients having orthopedic and general surgical procedures. Orthopedic surgeries include total joint replacements and back and neck procedures. Within this unit, the Bariatric Unit specializes in the care of patients having laparoscopic gastric bypass and laparoscopic banding procedures. In 2006, the Bariatric Unit received the Center of Excellence designation and in 2008, was awarded the Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery from Blue Cross and Blue Shield. A nurse working on this unit would gain experience in the preoperative and postoperative care of our surgical patients
as well as addressing the various medical disorders of our population. Nurses provide care utilizing an interdisciplinary approach with support from case managers, social workers, physical and occupational therapists and dietitians.
