Learn about Accountable Care Arrangements and what they mean for your healthcare needs.
PinnacleHealth is leading the way in the state by forming an Accountable Care Arrangement (ACA) with Capital BlueCross.
This is an innovative partnership that is one of the first of its kind between an integrated healthcare system and a health insurer in Pennsylvania. Our goal is to drive improvements in the healthcare delivery system.
An Accountable Care Arrangement (ACA) is a group of healthcare providers who provide coordinated care and chronic disease management to improve the quality of care patients receive. The organization’s payment is tied to achieving healthcare quality goals and outcomes that result in cost savings.
ACAs coordinate care for a population across multiple medical specialties and care settings, both inpatient and outpatient. They promote evidence-based care practices and use of information technology.
ACAs are accountable to the patients and the third-party payer for the quality, appropriateness and efficiency of the healthcare provided.
The ACA that PinnacleHealth has formed with Capital BlueCross has four core principles:
Be comprised of provider-led organizations with a strong base of primary care that are collectively accountable for quality and total per capita costs across the full continuum of care for a population of patients
Link payments to quality improvements that also reduce overall costs
Use reliable and progressively more sophisticated performance measurements to support improvement and provide confidence that savings are achieved through improvements in care
Manage patient expectations regarding the delivery of healthcare
