PinnacleHealth announced today that its West Shore Hospital is scheduled to open May 19, 2014. The new and highly anticipated five-story, 188,000 square foot facility is the first new hospital in central Pennsylvania in decades.
“We are excited about the opening of the West Shore Hospital and our ability to provide area residents with access to world-class care close to their homes,” said Michael A. Young, PinnacleHealth president and CEO. “The hospital represents a new chapter in healthcare that will touch the lives of West Shore residents for decades to come.”

The hospital features 108 private rooms offering patients a relaxing environment during inpatient care. Built with noise-reducing materials, it allows a setting more conducive to healing. Every room will also feature a digital whiteboard allowing nurses and physicians the ability to inform and update the patient about their care. The patient-centered hospital provides advanced, digital technology for the best treatment, comprehensive care and educational purposes.

Services offered at the new hospital include acute and emergency care (with 18 treatment rooms), cardiology, orthopedics, surgical services and chronic disease management. Additional benefits include nurses’ stations with patient monitoring as well as three cardiac labs for catheterization, electrophysiology and interventional radiology, seven operating rooms and a 12-bed ICU.

The campus also offers a walking trail available to the public. The scenic, paved footpath is divided among its one mile distance for exercise and respite.

“PinnacleHealth is dedicated to meeting the needs of its West Shore community, and with the new hospital we can provide the same exceptional care people associate with our Harrisburg campuses,” said Young. “We are making the West Shore a destination for excellent medical care.”

West Shore Hospital, which is expected to create 500 new healthcare jobs by 2017, builds upon the imaging, laboratory and physical therapy services already available at the PinnacleHealth Fredricksen Outpatient Center.
