HARRISBURG, PA (September 24, 2013) -- Patients will begin to occupy PinnacleHealth System’s new nursing floors at the Community Campus on September 26, 2013. Both the third and fourth floors each hold 32 larger, private patient rooms, expanded amenities for families and visitors and the latest point-of-care technology to improve care coordination, safety and efficiency.
“Patients will have access to exceptional service and the most advanced, sophisticated technology in a patient- and family-friendly environment,” states Michael A. Young, FACHE, President and CEO for PinnacleHealth. “Our culture and philosophy centers every decision on what is best and most helpful for the patient.”
Patient and family amenities include:
  • Private patient rooms with a pullout sofa bed and additional space to accommodate family and friends
  • Furniture customized for joint-replacement and spine patients
  • Designated areas and services for family and friends
  • Natural lighting for comfort and healing
  • Spacious bathrooms designed for safety
  • Flat-screen cable TVs
Caregiver enhancements that contribute to more efficient care include:
  • Nursing pods, positioning nurses closer to patients in their care
  • New call bell system that uses innovative and specific call bell buttons that send targeted messages to the appropriate caregiver for a patient’s desired need
  • Bedside computers for medical documentation at the point of care, providing better care coordination and safety
  • Bedside cardiac and vital-sign monitoring that uploads to the patient’s electronic medical record
  • Teletracking monitors easily visible to the care team for tracking patients
  • Patient rooms that are designed for convenient and proper storage of equipment necessary for patient care.
Care on the third floor of the Community Campus is dedicated to post-surgical patients after orthopedic, spine, general and bariatric surgical procedures. The fourth floor care is dedicated to cardiac and medical patients. In addition, the third floor houses a rehabilitation therapy gym. The fifth floor is shelled for future use.
The additional patient floors are part of expansions and similar renovations that are taking place throughout PinnacleHealth facilities as part of its multi-year strategic plan, Vision 2017. All improvements are targeted to accommodate an increasing elderly population, to provide the convenience and satisfaction demanded by educated consumers in the future and to create a highly integrated system of care designed to increase access, enhance quality, and lower costs.
