PinnacleHealth Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery welcomed John Lazar, MD, thoracic surgeon, to its Harrisburg practice this month.

Dr. Lazar comes to PinnacleHealth from a prestigious advanced fellowship in robotic and minimally invasive thoracic oncology. Prior to that, he was in a fellowship in thoracic surgery at the University of Rochester, a national leader in esophageal surgery, as well as complex minimally invasive video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) pulmonary resections. Dr. Lazar achieved his Doctor of Medicine degree from Saint George University.  Subsequently, he completed his general surgical residency at Harrisburg Hospital. His thoracic interests include development of new technologies for minimally invasive thoracic surgery, applying multidisciplinary approaches to improve long-term survival/quality of life for thoracic cancer patients, and using lung cancer screening to reach medically neglected communities without access to oncological care.

Dr. Lazar joins Mubashir Mumtaz, MD, FACS, chief of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery; Raymond Kostin, MD, FACS, thoracic surgeon; Troy Moritz, DO, FACOS, thoracic surgeon; and David Loran, MD, cardiovascular surgeon, at the practice offering a full range of highly specialized cardiovascular and thoracic surgery procedures including advanced clinical trials.

In addition to his partners, Dr. Lazar will see patients at PinnacleHealth Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery located on the Harrisburg Campus, Brady Building, 4th floor, 205 S. Front Street, Harrisburg.

Referrals to Dr. Lazar can be made by calling (717) 231-8555.

The Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery practice is part of the PinnacleHealth CardioVascular Institute (PHCVI), which performs more heart procedures than any other hospital in the region and it is in the top five acute care hospitals in Pennsylvania. PinnacleHealth also achieved the coveted Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS) highest 3-star overall for four consecutive rating periods in part because of survival rates that consistently exceed STS benchmarks. PHCVI is involved in more than 50 clinical trials for cardiac care and nearly 20 for vascular disease.
