Meet the Staff of Emergency Services at the PinnacleHealth West Shore Hospital

2/17/2014
100 Day Countdown Continues -- PinnacleHealth began a countdown to the opening of the new West Shore Hospital in Mechanicsburg last week. In less than 100 days – on May 19, 2014 – the new facility will open its doors.

The new hospital will provide PinnacleHealth Emergency Services closer for the West Shore community. During the past two years, PinnacleHealth has implemented interventions and best practices to improve ER throughput at each hospital, decreasing wait times and length of stay, while increasing patient satisfaction. In fact, PinnacleHealth began posting Emergency Room (ER) wait times on its website and billboards throughout the Harrisburg area.

Dan Bledsoe, MD, FACEP, is the new Medical Director for Emergency Services at West Shore Hospital.

“I joined PinnacleHealth for the opportunity to lead the ER at the new hospital and be part of growing system and team of dedicated physicians. We’re putting together a highly experienced team with an average of 21 years clinical emergency medicine experience,” states Dr. Blesdoe.

The Emergency Room at the West Shore Hospital will have 18 treatment rooms, adjacent to the cardiac catheterization lab, CT scan and MRI for quick diagnosis and treatment in an emergency.

Jen Gutshall, BSN, RN, a PinnacleHealth employee for 13 years, is the new nurse manager for Emergency Services at West Shore Hospital.

“I love emergency medicine and knew that I’d work in the ER since nursing school. It is exciting and ever changing, with a lot of team work. We are often the first people patients lay eyes on--the front door to the hospital--we can make a huge impression on them.”

In the coming months, PinnacleHealth will continue to share information via news, Internet and social media to show the community what goes into opening a new hospital. There will be daily social media posts that include contests and a few surprises along the way. And each week, hospital staff and physicians will be introduced and special features for the patient experience will be explained.
