Local Breast Care Center Receives National Accreditation

HARRISBURG, Pa. (January 15, 2014) – The PinnacleHealth Breast Care Center has received a three-year re-accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.  The Breast Cancer Center was first accredited in 2010. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
During the survey process, the center demonstrated compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease.  The standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.  A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.
The American Cancer Society (ACS) estimated that there would be 232,340 patients diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the United States in 20131. In addition, hundreds of thousands of women who will deal with benign breast disease this year will require medical evaluation for treatment options.
“Our multi-disciplinary team is committed to providing patients with the highest quality, comprehensive, contemporary diagnosis and treatment for both cancerous and noncancerous breast conditions,” states Lisa Torp, MD, FACS, medical director of the PinnacleHealth Breast Care Center. “We give special attention to individual diagnosis and tailor treatment plans to provide the best clinical and cosmetic outcome possible.”
“Congratulations to Dr. Torp and the entire team at the Breast Care Center,” said Michael Young, president and CEO of PinnacleHealth. “This accreditation demonstrates PinnacleHealth’s commitment to provide our patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.”
The Breast Care Center team includes board-certified breast surgeons Lisa Torp, MD, FACS, Brynn Wolff, MD, and Katherine Barton, MD, FACS, and Peggy Hummel, CRNP, and Cecily Lamb, RN, nurse navigator.
The PinnacleHealth Breast Center has multiple locations, including the 2nd floor, Medical Sciences Pavilion, 4300 Londonderry Road, Harrisburg; 850 Walnut Bottom Road, Suite 103, Carlisle; and the Fredricksen Outpatient Center, 2025 Technology Parkway, Suite 201, Mechanicsburg.
