PinnacleHealth Releases 2013 Annual Report with a Focus on Quality & Value
Healthcare is rapidly changing, and PinnacleHealth System’s 2013 annual report
, Investing in the Future of Healthcare, outlines its investments in people, tools and processes to ensure that central Pennsylvanians have access to the highest quality care for decades to come.
"Our focus remains on patients and their ever-changing needs. From advancements in technologies to establishing a patient-centered, fully integrated approach to healthcare, we are continuing to evolve and grow to ensure we deliver the right care, in the right setting, at the right time," said Michael A. Young, President and CEO, PinnacleHealth System. "We are aiming to make tomorrow’s healthcare available today."
It all starts with quality. Investing in the Future of Healthcare outlines the health system’s activities that are making it a leader in the nation for low infection and low readmission rates, among other quality measures. The report examines PinnacleHealth’s focus on patient-centered care. In its medical home model
, a team of medical professionals works closely with each other and with the patient to manage chronic illness and help each patient get needed care and services to be healthy and stay out of the hospital. One aspect of this preventive care focus is the system’s outreach to employers in the community to facilitate chronic disease prevention and integrated care services for nearly 100,000 employees and their families.
To ensure that state-of-the art, convenient facilities are available to patients across the three-county region, PinnacleHealth has embarked on an ambitious plan to upgrade its existing facilities and building new facilities.
The opening of West Shore Hospital
, as well as the opening of outpatient medical professional centers for primary and specialty care in Hummelstown, and the opening of new floors at Community General Osteopathic Hospital
all increase access to care where it is needed. PinnacleHealth also opened the Ortenzio Cancer Center
on its West Shore Campus, offering comprehensive cancer services close to home.
Investing in the Future of Healthcare also covers PinnacleHealth’s investments in innovative technology, providing staff with the equipment needed to perform the latest, most advance procedures for diagnosis and treatment safely and successfully. From patient-centered digital technology in patient’s hospital rooms to low-dose CT scanning equipment to high-tech cardiovascular procedures, PinnacleHealth is able to provide the most advanced technology for the best treatment and comprehensive care in the region.
The PinnacleHealth report also outlines the health system’s extensive community involvement.
"Healthcare does not end at our doors. We are investing in our communities, as well as through important partnerships with the City of Harrisburg, including dental care to vulnerable populations and making sure children have access to healthy foods through the PowerPack program," adds Young.
PinnacleHealth provided more than $14.3 million in community benefits and reached more than 1.6 million people through programs and services, such as free screenings, community health education and chronic disease management, between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2013.
The PinnacleHealth Foundation
continues to support programs and services including community health needs, heart care, HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention and emergency services. Through charitable giving, the PinnacleHealth Foundation supports community benefit and education programs, the needs of our three major hospitals, and provides resources that improve access and the quality of care throughout PinnacleHealth.
