Harrisburg Magazine's Simply the Best 2012
Since 1997, Harrisburg Magazine has polled its more than 50,000 readers each year to determine which Central Pennsylvania businesses are worthy of being named Simply the Best®. The magazine's annual survey enables residents to share their thoughts and experiences on a broad range of categories of local businesses and services, including shopping, dining, entertainment and automobile repair. In 2012, PinnacleHealth was named Simply the Best hospital. Not only that, we were awarded the Simply the Best title in four other categories: family doctors, psychologists, medical specialist, alternative medical specialist. We value everyone who voted for us and are committed to continuing to provide the best care in all these categories and more.
 
NICHE Designation
Harrisburg Hospital and Community General Osteopathic Hospital are proud to receive NICHE Designation (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) and are on the journey to excellence in elder care. This designation demonstrates PinnacleHealth's commitment to continue improving and enhancing the quality of care that elders receive in the community.  

Cardiac Program Receives Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS)'s Highest Rating, a Three-Star Rating  
PinnacleHealth's cardiothoracic surgery program has acquired yet another national accolade by achieving the coveted three-star highest quality designation for heart bypass surgery outcomes from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for the third year in a row. There are more than 1000 surgical groups in the United States that perform cardiac bypass surgery of which about 950 (90 percent) provide performance data to the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, a respected non-profit organization that represents physicians who perform chest operations.  PinnacleHealth's Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) program—part of the PinnacleHealth Cardiovascular Institute—joins an elite group of 12-15% of surgical practices in the entire nation to receive the prestigious, highest 3-Star rating for good outcomes in cardiac surgery for the period of January 2012 to December 2012.
 

 
VHA Pennsylvania awarded PinnacleHealth its Achieving Performance Excellence Award (APEX). The APEX award recognizes extraordinary achievement of clinical quality and patient safety by VHA members. VHA is a national network of not-for-profit health care organizations that work together reduce costs, improve clinical performance, and implement best practices.

 
PinnacleHealth has received the Get With The Guidelines®– Heart Failure (GWTG–Heart Failure) Gold Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association for the third year in a row. The recognition signifies that PinnacleHealth has reached an aggressive goal of treating heart failure patients with 85% compliance for at least 24 months to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology secondary prevention guidelines for heart failure patients

PinnacleHealth has received the Get With The Guidelines®–Resuscitation Silver Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. The recognition signifies that PinnacleHealth has reached an aggressive goal in using guidelines-based care to improve patient outcomes from in-hospital cardiac arrest. Get With The Guidelines–Resuscitation helps PinnacleHealth’s staff develop and implement protocols that can reduce disability and death from cardiac and respiratory emergencies. It provides an evidence-based, quality improvement program of patient safety, medical emergency team response, effective resuscitation and post-emergency care.
 

PinnacleHealth Breast Care Center Receives National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). NAPBC is a national coalition of professional healthcare organizations dedicated to the highest quality of care for women and men diagnosed with diseases of the breast. The NAPBC promotes a holistic approach to treatment for patients diagnosed with diseases of the breast, and provides a framework for a continuum of care that meets the needs of the whole person and not just the disease.

 Centers that seek NAPBC accreditation must complete a comprehensive on-line application and an on-site inspection by an NAPBC surveyor who verifies the availability of 17 components of care, and validates compliance with 27 evidence-based standards of care required to achieve NAPBC accreditation. To maintain accreditation the center is required to document ongoing compliance with the standards on an annual basis and undergo an on-site inspection every three years. The National eHealthcare Leadership Awards program was developed and first presented 13 years ago by eHealthcare Strategy & Trends, a leading industry resource published by Health Care Communications, Rye, NY. Winners of the 2012 eHealthcare Leadership Awards were selected from nearly 1,100 entries.  A total of 115 individuals familiar with healthcare and the Internet judged the entries. Winners were awarded on November 14 during the Sixteenth Annual Healthcare Internet Conference in Las Vegas. 

Judges looked at how websites and other digital communications compared with others in their organization’s classification. They also reviewed entries based on a proprietary multi-point standard of Internet excellence.  The best overall Internet site category, for example, had to pass muster on more than 40 factors. PinnacleHealth won Platinum award in Best overall Internet Site alongside Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic, Gold award in Best Site Design, Gold award in Best Doctor Directory.

PinnacleHealth’s Harrisburg Hospital is the first hospital in Central Pennsylvania to be recognized as an Accredited Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.

Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success Winner - two consecutive years. This prestigious award honors hospitals that have led the way with superior performance in cardiovascular service in four key areas: outcomes of care, service-line efficiency, financial performance and core measures alignment.



Primary Stroke Center Certification
The Joint Commission’s Primary Stroke Center Certification is based on the recommendations for primary stroke centers published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association’s statements/guidelines for stroke care.

Center of Excellence in Diabetes Care
We are proud to say that PinnacleHealth is the only hospital in the whole state of Pennsylvania to get the Gold Seal of Approval® from the Joint Commission (JCAHO) for improving care of diabetic patients in the Hospital. We are among 20 Hospitals across the country to get this recognition. This demonstrates our commitment to excellence in providing disease specific care.




Magnet Recognized Hospital
This prestigious distinction recognizes excellence in nursing care. Pinnacle Health is only the seventeenth Magnet Hospital in Pennsylvania and one of only 370 in the nation. 
 
Magnet status requires achievement of 60 standards focused on empirical outcomes within 5 domains such as Exemplary Professional Practice and New Knowledge, Innovation, and Improvements.

It is an organization concerned about patients and about providing the highest quality of patient care. The College stands firm in those beliefs and has developed CAP Public Statements on a variety of health issues related to pathology.
