There are lots of theories out there today about how someone "gets cancer". Do you know your risk factors? There is a terrific interactive website (link posted below) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute that can help you identify your risk factors and assist with ways to lower your risk. Try it.... you may be surprised at how much YOU can do to help lower your risk for developing certain preventable cancers. Let us know what you have learned-- it may help others.

Thank you for the resource nurse, the website is very informative! I have been trying to gain more knowledge about skin cancer, how you get it, when you get it, where it appears, etc. From this site I was able to learn that most skin cancer appears after the age of 50, even if the skin damage occurred earlier in life. I was under the assumption that skin cancer arises shortly after damage to your skin, such as a severe sunburn, but I was wrong!
Thanks again!

Jenna,

Glad you learned something that will help you moving forward.  I wanted to mention to you that PinnacleHealth has skin cancer screenings that are held yearly (usually in the Spring). Keep your eye on the PinnacleHealth website for next years screening date.

The risk assessment tool for each type of cancer is a great resource on this website. You can never be too informed about your risk. Thanks!
