Is it safe to exercise during pregnancy? I like to live a healthy lifestyle and work out 3-4 times a week but now that I am pregnant I am scared that exercise might hurt my baby.  Help!

Hey HealthGirl-
I'm happy to see other people are wondering the same thing as myself. I found a great article on WebMD about exercising while pregnant. The article says that for someone who was active prior to becoming pregnant, there is no reason you should not be able to exercise while pregnant but that you should be careful to not push yourself too hard or do a strenuous activity. The artcile also specifies that just to be safe you should talk to your physician for the thumbs up. For people who did not have an exercise regime before becoming pregnant, it is strongly advised that you talk to your doctor before starting a workout routine. Hope this helps!

Thanks! It's such a relief. I talked to my doctor and now I feel a lot better about working out without hurting the little one. Congrats on becoming a mom!

I did prenatal pilates and yoga dvd's. One of my girlfriends at the gym told me that it helps strengthen your core, back and pelvic floor muscles which makes it easier to carry a baby and I swear it helped me have a smoother delivery! Also, of course my husband said it made a huge difference in my raging hormones, LOL! To this day I still do pilates because it's so relaxing and really tones all of the trouble areas we have post-pregnancy.
