Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography (PET CT)

PET CT scan is an advanced diagnostic imaging procedure that can identify cancer and certain diseases of the heart and brain. PinnacleHealth now offers the addition of the new GE Discovery PET CT 600, offering patients the next evolution in PET CT scan.

What are PET/CT? What are they used for?

PET/CT can be a useful tool in evaluation, radiation therapy treatment planning, baseline staging, as well as monitoring for brain, cervical, colorectal, esophageal, head and neck, lung, lymphoma, and melanoma.

The new GE Discovery PET/CT 600 scanner delivers the highest sensitivity in the industry, enabling physicians to detect disease at an earlier stage, potentially lowering radiation exposure and providing faster patient exams.

One of the greatest challenges in imaging is the motion from breathing, the beating heart and other muscles can blur images, affecting image quality and accuracy. The motion-free platform of the Discovery PET/CT allows physicians to see areas affected by movement more clearly.

For scheduling PET/CT at the PinnacleHealth Medical Sciences Pavilion or Harrisburg Hospital call (717) 782-3137.  To schedule at PinnacleHealth Tristan Radiology Specialists, Imaging Services, Union Deposit call (717) 230-3700.
