Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

PinnacleHealth has a wide range of high field, non-claustrophobic, quiet MRIs on both the East and West shores

What is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)?

MRI is a diagnostic procedure that uses a large magnet, radio-frequencies and a computer to produce detailed images of organs and structures within the body.

I have to get an MRI but I am claustrophobic, and the noise frightens me.  What should I do?

Our extra-large open bore MRI machine (Siemen’s 1.5T  MAGNETOM Espree) accommodates patients of all sizes and one foot of spacious headroom, you no longer feel like you’re nose-to-nose with the top of the magnet. This is available at PinnacleHealth Imaging, West Hanover.

In addition, our new "quieter" MRI  (Toshiba's Vantage Powered by Atlas) can help to reduce anxiety and restlessness. With exceptional  sensitivity to slow flow, it is particularly well-suited  for evaluating peripheral vascular diseases of the  lower extremities. This is available at the  Fredricksen Outpatient Center in  Mechanicsburg, PinnacleHealth Imaging, Dillsburg, and at PinnacleHealth Imaging, Millersburg.

Our largest bore MRI (Toshiba Titan Large bore MRI) has the largest opening of any MRI available. In addition; the Titan reduces noise level by 90%. The Toshiba Titan is an alternative for performing rapid, ultraclear MRA without using contrast agents. This is available at our Harrisburg Campus and at the Imaging Center in the Medical Sciences Pavilion on the Community Campus..

Do you offer breast MRI?

Breast MRI is offered at Fredricksen Outpatient Center, PinnacleHealth Cumberland Campus and the Medical Sciences Pavilion on the Community Campus.
