Cardiac Risk Assessment & Vascular Screening
Heart disease is the number one killer of women. PinnacleHealth WomanCare helps you learn your risk factors and protect against heart disease and stroke.
Nearly twice as many women in the United States die of heart disease and stroke as from all forms of cancer, including breast cancer. In fact, coronary heart disease, which causes heart attack, is the leading cause of death for American women. You can learn about your risks through the following assessments:
Cardiac Risk Assessment
WomanCare Resource Center offers a comprehensive heart risk screening and assessment for women and men. This service takes approximately one hour and includes:
-
finger-stick, fasting blood testing for total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, and glucose
-
body mass index
-
height and weight
-
blood pressure and heart rate
-
family history
-
lifestyle assessment
-
bone density screening
Comprehensive and personal results are provided as well as one-to-one consultation with a nurse educator. Follow-up appointments are also available. There is no cost to the screening. Call (717) 231-8900 for an appointment or for more information about Cardiac Risk Assessment. Also search our events for upcoming screenings available to you.
Vascular Screening
Vascular disease affects millions of Americans in the form of stroke, peripheral artery disease (PAD), carotid artery disease and aortic aneurysms.
Vascular screenings are available by appointment for $25 each, or $75 for all three at PinnacleHealth’s Cumberland Campus at Fredricksen Outpatient Center, 2015 Technology Parkway in Mechanicsburg. A physician prescription is required. Additionally, a free bone density screening is available during testing.
Carotid artery screening ($25)
This Doppler ultrasound test provides a view of the inside of carotid arteries in the neck to screen for fatty plaque buildup which could cause a stroke.
Abdominal aorta screening ($25)
This screening uses Doppler ultrasound technology to evaluate the aortic artery in the abdomen for enlargement (aneurysm). Rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm is often fatal.
Peripheral artery screening ($25)
Ultrasound is used in this test to look for a blockage in the arteries of the lower leg that could cause leg pain while walking. Plaque buildup in the leg arteries is associated with increased risk of heart disease.
